Art in the Wood

From the twisted, gnarled wood that others reject I create sensuously curved, incredibly tactile sculpture to grace the home or garden.

Bodrighy Wood

Bodrighy Wood turning

Hand turned wood
Hand turned unique items of both decorative and practical purpose. My work is all from locally sourced sustainable sources using only wood that is recycled, reused of from trees that are storm damaged or felled for ecological purposes. Treen (items of kitchen ware) is finished with a food safe oil or left bare, sanded to a ultra smooth finish as appropriate.
I particularly like to try and incorporate some of the natural aspects of the wood such as the bark, natural defects or inclusions to enhance the tactile aspect of wood making the object something to feel as well as look at or use.

Ian Winton Furniture

Porthole cupboard by Ian Winton

Ian’s furniture has a quirky and sometimes retro feel and many pieces have a weather-worn or sea-sidey look. He uses reclaimed timber and found objects and applies a number of different paint finishes, with a special technique, to achieve the aged and weather-worn look. Also, pieces can be left unfinished (see blog) or painted to compliment or match a customer’s existing décor or colour scheme.
Most of the furniture you see on Ian’s blog shows one-off bespoke pieces. However, whilst Ian very much likes to design and make totally original pieces he is happy make any of these as ‘stock’ items to order. In these cases your piece will, to a certain extent, still have it’s own individuality due to nature of the available reclaimed materials used. Ian is also pleased to take new commissions and create items to suit the client’s specifications or adapt an existing design to their needs.
Please feel free to e mail or call Ian to discuss your requirements.

Parishcrafts

My turning has evolved from my hobby as it seems to do with others. I make many different types of items from small items up to large bowls and platters with quite a lot in between. Most of the wood used is locally sourced when possible.

Seacreature Designs

As a professional boat-builder and cabinet maker for fifteen years I have honed a variety of skills which I use in both my sculpture and furniture designs. With my sculptures I explore the ideas of motion, utilising wind, spring or pendulum power. I am inspired by the air and the ocean and its interaction with our world. I work in mixed media, using wood, metal and some stone to produce works of beauty and resilience.
