Bagas Porthia is a group of musicians who love a good tune and there are certainly plenty to choose from. This popular band has been quietly building up a strong following with their unique take on Cornish and Celtic music. Traditional and contemporary tunes and songs combine with rich Celtic instrumentation to produce a mellow yet energetic sound. We can also include easy to follow Cornish dances - just a ceilidh without the complications!

Bears on Location

The Bears of Porthors
The Bears of Porthors are a series of children's books, written by Dale Reardon from Bears on Location about his Bears and their adventures. The stories are set in a fictitious small fishing village called Porthors.
Located on the south coast of Cornwall UK where Teddy Bears live amongst the humans and are part of everyday life. Porthors is Cornish for Port of Bears.
Dale writes with passion about his bears, their daily lives and adventures in Porthors. Bringing them to life creating a world of Bears and people just beyond the reality of our own lives.
Dale has also taken his photographic images of the bears, turning them into pen drawings which brings the books to life and tells a story all of their own.
Dale has been working with Teddy Bears for some time now, at first it was all just for fun taking a bear on holidays and days out then writing from a bears perspective on a teddy bear website. This led Dale into starting his own business “Bears on Location” in 2009 which combines Cornish landscapes and Teddy Bears in high quality photographic images, Dale continued to write the blogs online from a Teddy Bears perspective honing his writing style the natural way forward was to put his writing energy into a stories for children.
The Bears of Porthors is the outcome simple easy to read stories, using his photographic experience Dale is able to combine his photography of Bears with his wonderful stories about his Bears.

Busy Bodies offer fantastic packages to suit the needs of anyone requiring a children’s entertainer. From a pirate and Princess party for a group of five year olds,to the formality of a wedding, Busy Bodies provide friendly, fully qualified, CRB checked and insured staff. Packages are customised within 1, 2 and 3 hour slots and a variety of stimulating equipment accommodates most themes.

Busy Bodies was born with the philosophy to keep kids busy and active using a quick turnaround of colourful equipment. And we use LOTS of equipment, ensuring that there are enough pieces to go around – that helps to keep the children so interested. A typical birthday party offers fitness and fun, music, interactive songs and games along with bags of equipment. Everyone will be entertained with a treasure hunt towards the end of your party and the birthday boy or girl are made to feel very special.

There's more.... face painting, balloon modelling, balloon release, karaoke and a bouncy castle, which can all be added at very competitive rates. We can even supply invitations, party bags and offer catering. Busy Bodies will entertain your younger guests allowing the adults to socialise!

Choughed to Bits

We are a lively and enthusiastic ceilidh band, based in south-east Cornwall, who play traditional music of all kinds - anything that makes you want to get up and dance.
The instruments include fiddle, melodeons, guitar and flute.
We have our own experienced caller who will teach you all that you need to know to have a great time dancing, but won’t mind if you get it wrong – it’s all for fun.
Ceilidhs are excellent for weddings and many other social events because they appeal to everybody, and are a great way to involve all your guests and help them to mix. Even those who don’t dance will find their feet tapping to the music.
We provide our own quality PA equipment and have full public liability insurance If however you just want some lively background music, without the dancing, we can still provide this for you (with our without amplification)

Hevva is a group of experienced dancers and musicians who display, teach and promote the traditional dances and music of Cornwall. The group performs at festivals and events around Cornwall and acts as an ambassador for Cornish culture further afield, including at festivals in Celtic and other countries.

As well as displays, Hevva can also provide a band and caller for ceilidhs or put on a full Cornish troyl. These quintessentially Cornish evenings of entertainment can include dance displays, music, song, a costume presentation and participatory dancing. The group includes a number of Cornish language speakers and can incorporate this into any booking.

Hevva runs open evenings for anyone interested in learning or practising traditional Cornish dance or music.

Johanna Graham Jazz

The Johanna Graham Trio/Quartet consists of smooth female vocals, upright double bass and skilful jazz guitar. They are a sophisticated outfit with a real air of glamour. When Johanna is performing she has a unique ability to take on the personas of the stars from the past. You won't get the feeling that she's "doing Billie Holiday", but something of the essence of the classic recording will come through naturally as she sings. John Thorpe

John Thorpe is a musician who performs didgeridoo music at gigs and festivals. He also teaches the art of playing the didgeridoo at all levels including information about its background. John sources his wood from Cornwall from which he makes and tunes his didgeridoos to his specific playing requirements - The Cornish backdrop is a source of inspiration to John's music and recordings.

Jumping Out Background Duo and Jazz Band

Jumping Out Duo specialise in background or easy listening music at events weddings, hotels restaurants, trade shows etc.
The duo play a big mixture of music including commercial jazz music from the 50s, 60s and modern acoustic ballads. Instruments include clarinet, saxophone, guitars and vocals. Not much room is required to set up in and we also have a mobile battery amp set up If there is no electric.
The band is available in different sizes (4, 5, or 6 piece), playing old trad, popular trad and swing classics. Various instruments with lots of singing.

Kekezza

Young Cornish dance group based in Redruth. Open to teenagers and above, the group was formed in 2006 and has since gone on to represent Cornwall at the Interceltic Festival at Lorient, the biggest of its kind, as well as travelling to Wales and giving displays in Cornwall itself. The group perform traditional dances and newly choreographed dances in traditional style, specialising in Cornish step dance. The name means 'heather' and their costumes reflect the colours of the plant, often used as a symbol for Cornwall.

The Kidz R Us Theatre group in St Ives was set up 15 years ago and began life as a one-off performance to raise money for the Save the Children Fund at the Guildhall in St Ives. Philip Barnett and Margaret Banfield from the local operatic society assembled a small group of brave kids to stage a single concert but it was such a success that the audience begged for more of the same and so Kidz R Us was born.

Truro Choral Society

The society performs several concerts each year, often in Truro Cathedral. The choir is currently (September 2009) about 100 strong. Our Music Director is Martin Palmer. We perform mostly choral classic pieces, but also some modern choral music. There are a few optional social events.
No auditions are required: come along and try us for 2-3 rehearsals!

We meet every Tuesday evening in term-time, 7 p.m. - 9pm at Richard Lander School, Truro, Cornwall.
