Introduction to Bas Relief Carving

Tuesday, 20th February 2018

Gain an introduction to Bas Relief carving, and make a decorative tile with plaster. Bas Relief is a form of sculpture, where just one side of a carved material can be seen, usually with a flat back. This decorative technique can often be seen in architectural fixings, tiles or artwork.(image used is from an ancient Cambonian stone carving).
During this session we will look at design ideas, carving tools and techniques Learn how to mix Plaster of Paris, and then carve into a pre-made plaster block. Plaster is soft to work with until fully set, and an ideal material to gain quick results. It is also great for beginners and children to achieve lovely results. Leave with a carved tile, that can be painted at a later date when fully dried out, or left white and simply sealed.
Makes a lovely art piece for the home or garden. Be Prepared to get messy.
All materials included. Adults £20, children £10 (not suitable for children under 5)..
Booking essential.
