Truro Choral Society sings Handel Messiah
Saturday, 9th December 2017
Truro Choral Society returns to Truro Cathedral to sing Handel’s enduringly popular masterpiece of 1741, Messiah, conducted by Martin Palmer and accompanied by Truro Symphony Orchestra.
The superb soloists will include tenor David Webb, who as part of English National Opera’s company sang Frederic in The Pirates of Penzance and Messenger in Aida this year and will appear as Lysander in A Midsummer Night’s Dream next March. Joining him on the dais will be the accomplished soprano Suzanne Manuell, who has appeared at the Royal Albert Hall and Royal Opera House and performed with orchestras including the Royal Philharmonic and Northern Sinfonia. Tim Carleston, countertenor with The Queen’s Six, the male-voice a cappella group based at Windsor Castle, will be singing alto and renowned baritone George von Bergen, a regular performer with ENO, will sing bass.
“A sparkling and uplifting performance”, “delivered with perfection” and “Martin Palmer again achieved perfect balance between the large choir and orchestra” are just some of the comments reviewers and audience members have made following the choir’s previous performances of this wonderful baroque-era oratorio.
Considered by many as the start to the Christmas season, this concert is always a sell-out occasion, so early booking is advised.
Tickets: adults, £18; under 19s, free. From Box Office Cornwall (www.hallforcornwall.co.uk; 01872 262466).
