Crossover Community Project

Elim Church in CamborneThe Crossover Community Project is the social action arm of the Elim Church in Camborne and provides a variety of services for local people, right across the age spectrum. These include a parent and pre-school group [Happy Tots], a Kids Club for children aged 6 – 11 years, two evening groups for teenagers and a wide range of courses for adults. We also have ‘Young at Heart’, a weekly support group for older people, interested in learning new craft skills and going out on trips and we regularly put on family activity nights and community fun days.

Our adult courses include informal 5 week groups that are taster sessions for trying out crafts such as pottery, felting, card making and tiffany glass work, alongside 20 week accredited courses in creative crafts such as decorative glass, sugar craft and mosaics, up to NCFE Level 3. We also have courses on developing effective parenting skills, building self esteem and coping with stress and these are supplemented by Crossover Care, which provides a listening ear and confidential support if people want to talk through life issues. There is also access to our ‘Moneyaction’ team who give personal budgeting training with benefit and debt advice.

The project is open to all and seeks to offer people a warm, friendly welcome, assistance to reach their educational and employment aspirations and support in the ups and downs of life. People involved in the project describe it as “friendly”, “inclusive”, helpful”, “like a family” and “somewhere that gives me a sense of belonging”.

If you’d like more information on the project, ring 01209 – 714781 and ask to speak to Audrey Carmichael, the project manager.
